Edinburg to host UT Austin Screen Writing Workshop

The University of Texas, ranked as one of the 10 best programs in the United States, has a MFA screenwriting program with a unique class that caught the attention of the folks organizing the South Texas International Film Festival (STXIFF) in Edinburg, Texas. The "Advanced Writing: Series TV" screenwriting class, taught by industry professional Cindy McCreery,  mimics the "writers room" of a television show as much as possible, with the "writing staff" (the students) working together under the supervision of the "show runner" (the instructor) to develop each other's scripts. Rio Grande Valley screenwriters will have a chance to get a taste of this interesting learning experience at the 2016 South Texas International Film Festival taking place at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance on Saturday, September 10th. The workshop will have limited seating so you should like the festival on facebook to be one of the first to find out when registration opens for the workshop.

Cindy McCreery is a graduate of the Walt Disney/ABC Feature Writing Fellowship program for the 2002-2003 year.  Since then she has sold feature projects to New Line Cinema, Walt Disney Studios, Paramount Pictures, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, National Geographic Films, Warner Brothers, Lionsgate and MGM.  She most recently co-wrote two episodes of the SyFy Channel Show, “Steven King’s Haven” that aired in the fall of 2014 and she has recently sold two one hour drama pilots.  In the fall of 2014 she was also hired to write a feature film for Branded Entertainment.
